                       ---------------------------

We are delighted to announce that the 43rd SBA Annual General Meeting will be held on 15 March 2014, once again at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, near Warwick (CV35 0BJ).

We found in 2013 that this modern museum venue provides excellent conference resources for what we expect to be another stimulating AGM. We also noted that the food was superb!  Gaydon is very central and close to the M40 so we hope it will again prove a popular choice. Our booking comes with 175 tickets for the museum and by sharpening up the ever-popular auction, at least a quick lunchtime look at the historic vehicles ought to be possible.

What happens at the AGM?

SBA Annual General Meetings are always enjoyable, often fascinating, and as usual:

·       there will be time to meet friends, examine exhibits and sales items

·       submit picturesfor the photo competition

·       enjoy the auction of steamboat related items. [Further auction details to be provided: proposal is that lots should start at £10 to speed things along. Parking is easy and the venue is used to machinery lying around!]

·       buy and sell bits and pieces. Members are welcome to take over a table for use as a sales stand for those little bits – or what have you: plenty of tables available

·       hear from our President, Sir Neil Cossons, whose informed input we value highly

·       ...take part in the formal AGM, the agenda for which will be on the website once finalised and sent to booked attendees around four weeks before the event in the AGM pack

·       enjoy our speaker, Richard Clammer, of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society - a distinguished author on the subject he comes warmly recommended by SBA members

·       ...tuck into our (very slightly) formal evening dinner: always colourful.

What will it cost?... (Whole day just over £2.00 more than last year)

Hospitality (inc. tea/coffee on arrival and mid-afternoon) £ 7.00
Buffet lunch  £11.00
Two Course evening dinner £20.00
Total £38.00

Please note that this is the cost for the whole full day and evening and all meals and refreshments; you are welcome to book any combination of meals and refreshments – just lunch or just dinner (or both lunch and dinner) and with or without tea and coffee. Wristbands will be issued for your choices and delivered with the AGM pack (see below). N.B. There is no charge for attending the AGM if you are not partaking of any catering.

What do I need to do now?

(1)   Note the date in your diary!

(2)   Arrange accommodation near to the Heritage Motor Centre

(3)   Decide what catering you would like [am & pm refreshments / lunch/ dinner]

(4)   Fill in the booking form sent out with the Christmas Funnel and return with cheque via Royal Mail
OR* book and pay online via the website:
http://www.steamboatassociation.org.uk/Default.aspx?pageId=1039467&eventId=785322&EventViewMode=EventDetails (N.B. For online bookers, the AGM pack will be in PDF format on the web and spare hard copies will be available on the day. Meal wrist bands will be handed out on arrival)

.
*N.B. Please don’t be tempted to register online and then pay by cheque: it takes a bit of unravelling so do one or the other! If you register online you
must pay for refreshments/meals via Paypal as well.

Steps 5/6/7 are for those not booking online and desiring a pack mailed to them:

(5)   Prepare a cheque to cover the cost of those meals/refreshments you select. You’ll understand that we have to insist that meals be pre-ordered and paid for in advance.

(6)   Prepare a stamped, self-addressed (SSAE) (A4 size) C4 envelope and immediately prior to the 15th March we will send it back to you containing an AGM pack – to include full agenda, minutes of the 2014 AGM, your meal wrist bands etc.

(7)   Post the form, the cheque and the SSAE – to the Chairman:

Hotel accommodation

The Premier Inn near Banbury, used by some last year, burned down in September (not our fault) but a wealth of accommodation remains available in this area, close to Stratford. Google ‘Accommodation near to the Heritage Motor Centre’ for a really useful list of B&Bs, self-catering and local pubs. Average cost still seems to be ca. £50 per night.
