Henley Rally 2015

Friday 28th August to Sunday 30th August 2015 at Henley Sea Cadets

Please register your participation online on the Events Page of steamboatassociation.co.uk and/or post your full booking to Nigel Thomson

Venue

We are guests of the Henley-on-Thames sea cadets at their training ship Guardian Wargrave Road Henley –on-Thames, Oxon RG9 2LX. This provides aprox  100ft of moorings, so rafting out may be required,  on the main Henley reach within walking distance of the town centre.  There is a small kitchen and toilets / washing facilities and drill hall. Limited amount of riverside grass suitable for camping, Unsecured  parking for about 20 trailers.  We have agreed to make a donation for this hospitality.  These premises are not licenced for the sale of alcohol nor are our caterers so please provide your own.

River Licence

Boats on the Thames must pay a licence fee to the Environment Agency this can be done at Thames locks or by post in advance using the form available from the EA website charges are based on area of hull so for example my 25ft X 6ft hull is £31.50 for one week. Consider that this is a bank holiday week end so locks will be busy.

Access

There is no suitable slip way on this reach of the Thames, so you have to go through a lock before reaching the Sea Cadets.  The nearest free slipway is at Aston Ferry RG9 3DH it is a gravel slope which used to be a ferry crossing, I have used it in the past to launch a 35ft launch however there is very little trailer parking so you have to park your trailer at the sea cadets. Alternatively there is a delux concrete slipway at Val Wyatts boatyard Willow Lane Wargrave RG10 8LH charge £40 pound to launch and recover, you would have to organise trailer parking with Val Wyatts or park your trailer at The Sea Cadets.

Coal

We will purchase a bulk order of Welsh Steam coal from Frank Burston, supplied at Frank Burston’s rates plus a small charge for transport etc..

and SBA Event Conditions will apply.

The organisers are Nigel Thomson and Roger Heise.
