Windermere Steamboat Rally 2019:  August 4th to 9th

Formal activities will start from Sunday 4th - as I understand that the Lakeland Boat Club’s Boat Parade will not be going ahead.  The SBA’s Rally will be pay-as-you-go, light-organisation-touch - this format seemed to have general approval last year.  There will be no organisation charges.  I will appreciate your advance notification of (and commitment to) numbers for the various joint meals planned.  I will not be organising a coal delivery.

The event will be centred at the Ferry Nab Wardens’ berths; we’ll try to be even-handed to those berthed elsewhere with trips in the North and South basins.  I will propose the usual steaming trips: to Fell Foot/Swan (picnic or café lunch), to Wray Castle (picnic) &Waterhead, to Belle Isle & Cunsey (picnic & tea stops).  What we do each day will be decided a day or so in advance with knowledge of the weather forecast - I’ll publish the detail in good time in a regular email update.

If you are bringing a boat and don’t have a private berth fixed, please contact me to find space at Ferry Nab.  If there are more boats than berth space, we will arrange rafting-up.  Boat can be launched from Ferry Nab, where you can pay Windermere Registration, slip fees, berthing fees and car/trailer parking charges.

Those with boats please be prepared to take non-boatowners with you.

If you don’t have a boat you are most welcome - do let me know so I can get you aboard a boat.

Planned social ‘do’s are:

•Sunday evening (4th) from 7pm evening meal/just drinks at The Boathouse Restaurant in Windermere Marina Village just by Ferry Nab

•Day to be chosen (Monday? - weather dependent) - picnic lunch at Wray Castle Harbour

•Monday evening (5th) Pie & Peas at 7pm followed by quiz (9pm) at the Angler’s Arms, Haverthwaite

•Tuesday (lunchtime) - visit Windermere Jetty, buffet/own-selection lunch, donation to/charge by WJ.   STOP PRESS: price for the buffet is £12.50 and a donation of £5/person will include a 'behind the scenes' guided tour.  Dress up boats and occupants!

•Evening to be chosen (Tuesday? - weather dependent) - twilight wine-tasting and nibbles - bring lights/fairy lights & warm clothing

•Day to be chosen (Wednesday? - weather dependent) - lunch stop at Fell Foot

•Day to be chosen (Thursday? - weather dependent) – maybe WRYC lunch & tea trip(s) round Belle Isle and down west side of Windermere

•Evening to be chosen (Tuesday? - weather dependent) - twilight wine-tasting and nibbles - bring lights/fairy lights & warm clothing

•Thursday evening (8th) drinks then dinner at The Boathouse Restaurant – important you book with me and choose menu by Monday

•Friday day – picnic trip to somewhere not too far (Belle Isle/Cunsey)

Friday evening (if you are still around) drop by Windermere Jetty at 7pm for their Pizza & Prosecco evening.

Please let me know by say 1st August if you are coming and let me know by 29th July if you are coming to the P&P & Q or the WJ events.  You can do this through the event page of the SBA website or by email to me directly (ww2019@heise-data.de).
